Many patients suffer from sleep apnea or snore during the night, but not everyone knows that they can get treatment for their sleep disorders from their dentist. At Cochran Family Dental, we understand what an important part a good night’s rest plays in your overall health and can help our patients sleep better, even if they’ve struggled with snoring or sleep apnea in the past.
Sleep apnea is a condition where your throat muscles and tissues relax too much while you are sleeping. When the muscles and tissues in your throat relax too much, your airway can collapse and keep necessary oxygen from reaching your brain. When your brain doesn’t receive the oxygen that it needs, it wakes you up enough for your breathing to normalize again. Once your breathing has normalized, you fall back asleep and the pattern repeats itself.
Sleep apnea sufferers wake up constantly during the night and do not experience a full night’s rest, even if they’ve gone to bed for eight hours. A lack of sleep can effect productivity, happiness, and your overall health.
